Mobile directional control valves

Here's another Flint Hydraulics Tech Tip: Blade position on a grade-cutting machine is maintained by means of a directional control valve alone or by load-holding valves such as counterbalance valves or pilot operated check valves. The tech's challenge is to overcome negative functional consequences like hydraulic system inefficiency, system damage, inadequate control, and sloppy appearance. A mobile directional control valve overcomes all of the above. Need help with your mobile application? Call us today at 901-794-4884 or email sales@flinthyd.com.

Flint Valve Saver

Flint Hydraulics, Inc. introduces our new Flint Valve Saver (FVS) cover for the PVG 32 valve when used for add-on machine automation applications. Where remote quick discounts or other reversing attachment options power the valve, the FVS will prevent damage to the PVG 32 if the machine's valve is inadvertently actuated in the wrong direction. While preventing damage to the valve, the cover provides very low pressure drop in normal operations, unlike many add-on check valves. Call us today at 901-794-4884, or visit http://www.flinthyd.com/flint-valve-saver.html.

Flow rate determines speed

Here's another Flint Hydraulics Tech Tip: A flow control valve changes the flow rate of a cylinder. Flow rate determines cylinder speed of extension and retraction and therefore, the speed of blade movement. Flow control valves increase or decrease flow rate by means of an adjustable internal orifice; the smaller the orifice through which the oil is forced to flow, the lower the flow rate to the cylinder.

Directional control valves - then and now

Here's another Flint Hydraulics Tech Tip: In the early days of automated grading, the only practical valve solutions were "industrial valves," those used in factories - not on mobile equipment. When these valves were used to automate earth-moving machines, additional valves had to be installed, resulting in a mass of valves, hoses, adapters, tubes, etc. All this forced into the confined space of a mobile machine was unsightly. Not so today!

The Purpose of a Machine Control Valve System

Here's another Flint Hydraulic Tech Tip: The grade-cutting blade of a machine must be controlled in three ways: direction, speed and position. A hydraulic directional control valve, as the name implies, controls the direction of oil flow in a hydraulic system. Flow direction determines the direction of the hydraulic cylinder (extension/retraction) which, in turn, moves the machine's blade (up/down; tilt right/left; side shift right/left).
